Kansas-Nebraska Act / "Bleeding Kansas"
I knew it! They were gonna find away around the Missouri Compromise. We CAN not, and WILL not allow anymore of our people feed this land with blood and tears.
'There' saying current violence is due to the compromise of 1850 and the disagreement of slavery. Well of course it is! And Stephen Douglass is no help. The Kansas-Nebraska Territory actually belongs to the Indians and is protected by the Missouri Compromise. This Act is going to allow the residents of Kansas to decide for themselves if their a slaveholding state or not. This is popular sovereignty! Douglass Act would repeal the Missouri Compromise -- what was the point of even issuing this act if some 10 years later you go against it?
As if that wasn't enough the 'Border Ruffians' from Missouri are attacking the antislavery population of Kansas and voting illegally! This is NONSENSE!
All of this tension was bound to come to an peak, and I'm unfortunately not shocked or surprised to witness the effect of the growing tension. 1856 became the year of Bleeding Kansas. The budding heads of the two governments in Kansas lead to a ... civil war. As a man strong in faith and importance of life the residents of cities like, Lawrence and Pottowattamie do not deserve their streets soaked in blood. Although death should never be an option I do find John Brown brave, he's freed our own, and killed those who enslaved us. Can I -- WE blame him?
